LECTURE

Recap of last week's lecture

What is the meaning of Public Service Announcement?
A public service announcement (PSA) is a message in the public interest disseminated without charge, with the objective of raising awareness of, and changing public attitudes and behavior towards, a social issue.

Since we had done some research last week, this week we can move on to the next step —— define your concept. We need to ask ourselves, how can we evokes the viewer's feeling and deliver strong impression? Which graphic is more provoking? Who is our target audience?

Once we decided our concept, we can start to develop the design project.

1. Visualize idea and concept into sketches

2. Draft the digital poster based on your sketch

3. Develop the composition techniques using Digital Photography & Graphic Design

4. Apply color, typography, textures & effects

5. Finalize the design with color correction

TUTORIAL

During the tutorial, Mr. Fauzi demonstrated us how to recolour the black and white images in Photoshop. There is also a video tutorial provided by Mr. Martin to further enhance our understanding.

PRACTICAL

Process of Project 2A / Exercise 2 Part 1

Here is the original photo we received.

Figure 1.1, Original black and white photo, Week 6 (27/9/2021)

We will use brush tool to paint on top of the image and make use of the blending mode to make the colour realistic. We are advised to adjust the opacity, size and hardness of the brush while colouring.

Figure 1.2, Base colour of skin, Week 6 (27/9/2021)

To make the skin colour looks realistic, I applied linear burn to this layer (Figure 1.2). I also did several layers like highlight, shades and reddish tone for the skin colour.

Then, I worked on the lips, eyeballs, hair and the clothes.

Finally, I added a brownish background, and adjusted the curves and saturation.

Process of Project 2B

Part 2 : Define the concept

At this stage, we are required to sketch each layers (title, slogan, details & call for action). Then, we can combined all the layers to create mock up posters.

Now, I can arrange all the concept at hand to create my first mock up poster. My idea is to place a girl portrait in the middle, and flowers are blooming on her hair.

Figure 2.5, Mockup 1, Week 6 (2/10/2021)

The second idea is similar to the first one, the difference is one is lying on the floor, another one is sitting normally, but her hair will be fluttering to add dynamic and movement to the poster.

I have another idea of taking a picture with flowers in my hand.

FEEDBACK

Good sketch. The idea for Mockup 1 and 3 is good. Sir suggested me to go with Mockup 3, and asked me to hold the real flowers because if I take the pictures from Internet, it is difficult to get the correct perspective.
