LECTURE

During our very first lecture class, we met Mr. Fauzi, our lecturer for this module in the Zoom call. After he welcomed everyone, he asked us to join Google Classroom as it will be our main platform to communicate and to obtain classwork. He then introduced us to the reasons of learning Photoshop and gave us an overview about all the projects we will be working on in the entire semester. He also shared with us the past students' works.

Although it was early in the morning, everyone seemed to be excited about the module and was pretty active interacting with Mr. Fauzi.

TUTORIAL

We were introduced to our first task —— physical collage design. We were allowed to use any materials we have (magazines, drawing papers, colour papers etc) to create a collage. Since there is no restriction for theme and materials, it is time to spark our imagination!

Mr. Fauzi showed us a recorded video of the process of making a collage. He asked us to start collecting the materials this week.

PRACTICAL

We are required to complete these tasks :

1. Play the Bezier Game
2. Create E-portfolio Blog
3. Register Pinterest and Behance
4. List down your favourite 3 graphic design works from Pinterest and explain why.

Finished tasks:

1. The Bezier Game

Figure 2, My Final Score for the Bezier Game, Week 1 (23/8/2021)

I have played this game before, so it was not very challenging for me. I think it is an interesting game for beginners to familiar with the pen tool. My final score is 38 nodes to spare.

2. Create E-portfolio Blog

After the class, I created my e-portfolio in Blogspot.
Here is my link >>> https://tanyiyun.blogspot.com/
I spent the whole day figuring out how Blogspot works because it is my first time using it. We were not allowed to use any other websites like WordPress or Wix.

3. Register Pinterest and Behance

I love using Pinterest to hunt for inspirations but I am not so into Behance at the moment.

4. List down your favourite 3 graphic design works from Pinterest and explain why.

Design #1
Figure 3.1, Vector Graphic by Pablo Lobato, Week 1 (23/8/2021)

This is an artwork produced by Pablo Lobato. He only used simple geometry shapes, but able to distill the essence of likeness. I am attracted to the simplicity of his art, not only it highlights the important facial features which leads to instant recognition, but also the usage of monochromatic colours setting up the mood. The overall composition is balance that makes me feel comfortable, and is pleasing to the eyes.

Design #2
Figure 3.2,Typography by Folk, Week 1 (23/8/2021)

The first thing caught my attention is the flowing pattern of the typography. It gives me an idea that typography is not necessary be flat or 2D. The “striped-like” arrangement shows a sense of form and depth. The soft colour palette of the typography stands out from the dark grey background that I find very eye-catching.

Design #3
Figure 3.3, Poster Design Inspiration by Zeka Design, Week 1 (23/8/2021)

This is a series of minimalist poster design inspiration by Zeka Design. All six poster designs have the similar colour palette, which are pastel pink, yellow and blue, also called the primary colours. The low saturation gives me the feeling of calm and relax. The composition of the graphic elements and photographs followed the rule of thirds, making them look more interesting and dynamic. Simple but strong composition can be observed either individually or as a whole.
