INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 1 : TECHNICAL AND MOTION GRAPHICS SENSIBILITIES

Project 1 is about using basic shapes to create simple motion graphics based on 8 design principles. The design principles include:
1. MOVEMENT
2. HIERARCHY
3. BALANCE
4. DIRECTION
5. SYMMETRY
6. FOCUS
7. SCALE
8. RHYTHM

We only need to animate for symmetry, focus, scale and rhythm. The After Effects template has been provided, and we are ought to explore the motion graphics techniques by watching YouTube tutorials. After we have completed all 8 motion graphics, we will need to composite them to produce a 16-second video.

Sample
This is a sample of work provided by Mr. Fauzi. I observed that the shapes that have been used are squares/rectangles, circles, and triangles.

Execution - Part 1: pre-composition

Symmetry
First of all, I explored some motion graphics example from YouTube.

For the execution, I started with four dots (somehow looks like a Domino's pizza logo). Then, I rotated them and added mask over two of the dots.

Next, I played with trim paths so that the line can appear or disappear following a certain path. I took me awhile to decide where to put the lines.

Focus
I had an idea of using the focus frame of camera. The frame is trying to capture the ball in the first few second, and when the ball stops moving, the frame finally captures it.

When the frame captures the ball, there are a few layers of ring effect coming out from the center.

Scale

Then, for scale, I used two shapes (square and circle) and adjusted the size accordingly.

Rhythm
I looked for the examples in YouTube and tried to re-create the rhythmic wavefront of bass.

Execution - Part 2: composition remix
Next, I compiled all the clips and compose to make a 16-second video. It is a bit challenging to mix with the assets provided by sir.

I tried to make sure that all composition appears to be balance.

FEEDBACK

Week 6 :

Mr. Fauzi likes the rhythm the most. The sound effects is adding the vibe. The intro is good too. Can try to find connection in each transition. Overall good job.

REFLECTION

This project allows me to understand and apply basic design principles in animating different shapes. Besides, I also learnt about keyframing, working with layers and effects, and understanding the essentials of compositing. Although it is a bit challenging to remix the composition using the assets provided by sir, I still manage to create a unique composition which is pleasing to look at.
