Project 2/ Producing the Short Animation Pitch Bible
PROJECT 2 : Pitch Bible
In this project, students are asked to produce a pitch bible of their
original short animation story according to a generic format.
The Animation Pitch Bible is the attempt to organize into words and
pictures the idea, vision and style of your animation. It is a guide that
contains detailed aspects concerning nearly all levels of the project's
production - your premise, character descriptions and designs, script,
storyboards, etc.
The classic format of the pitch bible:
1. Cover page with title and image (one page)
2. Table of Contents (one page)
3. Concept Statement
4. Log line
5. Target Audience
6. Synopsis
7. Production methods/value
8. Character design drawings
9. Character description in paragraph form
10. Setting / environment concept art
11. Script
12. Storyboard
13. Contact info

Thumbnail Sketches
Thumbnail sketches are quick, abbreviated drawings, usually done very
rapidly. We are advised to exaggerate the emotion, action and perspective in
the sketches.
These are the thumbnail sketches of the selected scenes for animation
teaser. Scene 1 is the part where the dough meets the oven, Scene 2 is the
dough in universe, Scene 3 is the cat chasing the rat, and last but not
least, the last scene is the part the girl walking in the forest.

FEEDBACK
Week 6 :
- Can combine scene 1 + 2. Change of camera movement to show the expression
of the character. When it turns around, it sees the oven, and camera zooms
into the oven. More dynamic.
- Scene 3 (universe) and make it more interesting, more movement. E.g.
there is a rocket and the character catches it and increases the
speed.
- Scene 4 (exaggeration of expression)
- Scene 5 (plants)- maybe the character can jump around the growing
plants.
Week 7 :
- Apply low angle to high angle in Scene 1.
- Scene 3 can be more exaggerated and more interesting. Change of speed is
a good idea.
REFLECTION
This is the first time I heard about pitch bible. After completing this project, I understand that pitch bible is an important document used for referring to the information on characters, settings, script and other elements of a film project. I also learnt some techniques in producing a better storyboard. For example, animators always use interesting angles (like low angle) to present their characters. I learnt about the right procedure of proposing an animation idea : concept statement, log line, target audience, synopsis, just to mention a few. Anyway, I finished this project with a sick body. If time allows, I will polish up my storyboard to make it looks more interesting and eye-catching.
