INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 2 : Action Animation

We are asked to pick any shot from your film studies and cinematography class project. The selected shot should have an action that is showing a character in Full Shot (FS) or from knee up to the head. The duration is according to your animatics but not too short like less than 2 seconds. Find the action references from Youtube or any other sources that are similar to your action in the shot. Save the video to your hard drive as mp4 format.

Notes:
If the camera is not according to your shot, you need to analyse it from various angles. Understand the mechanics of action and try to fit the action according to your camera shot.

The video below is the walk cycle with emotion. It have 10 keyframes that are animated on 3.
Scene 4 - Rough (on 3), Week 10 (2/11/2022)
I prefer animating on 3 by filling up with in-betweens.

FEEDBACK

Week 11 :

Animate the full shot of rat and cat running cycle. Then adjust the camera movement in Adobe Animate. Add expression/emotion to the character walk cycle.

REFLECTION

This project is challenging because we have to apply the animation principles into the action. I am not familiar with how cat runs and jumps. So, I went to search for some reference videos and trace over the frames. Then, I try to fit the action based on the camera shot. One of the challenges I faced is the difficulty of using brushes in Adobe Animate. Unlike Photoshop, there are lesser brush options and the lines are difficult to clean up. I have to give up the chalky brush pattern I would like to use initially. All and all, I look forward to completing the entire 20 seconds animation in the final project.
