INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 1 : Research and propose the original short animation story

Expressing Memories

1A: Think of a memory that you remember vividly. It should be a memory that comes easily to you.
1B: Why do you think you remember this so well? Try connecting one or more emotions to this memory.
1C: Now try and express your memory and emotion in some way. The goal is to get it out of your head. Here are some ideas for what you could do.
Verbally: Tell your memory to someone that you know. Can you make them feel the emotion?

*Audio record, don't script it.

Transcript:
- It is about the perceptions of life
- Actively participate in events and competitions
- Seldom feel satisfy/happy of achievements
- Always go for the quickest way to success instead of exploring myself
- Want to spend time to do what I love
- Dream big since young
- But no action taken
- Life is too ordinary/no purpose
- Feel like being kept in a cage

With this experience/thought, I have came up with this idea:

Ideation #1, Week 2 (11/9/2022)

Next, we were asked to transcript our storyline into bullet points.
Figure 1.1, Example, Week 3 (13/9/2022)

Mr. Martin asked me to jump out from my own cage. If I'm not happy with the story, just change it! So here it comes another version of story.

Ideation #2, Week 3 (19/9/2022)

Some sort of "3-act" structure, Week 3 (19/9/2022)

I recreated the concept art in the portrait format because I wanted to show the character is falling into an unknown space.

Figure 1.2, Concept Art, Week 4 (25//9/2022)

Final submission for Project 1
Ideation, Week 4 (25/9/2022)

REFLECTION

In Project 1, we are all expected to propose a story idea that includes our personal reflections. As we all know, stories have the power to captivate a reader, grip the imagination and transport us into a different world. But, how about true life stories? They can cause emotional engagement, inspire trust and empathy, make the audience feel relatable. True life stories can teach us the things we do not know; they give us an opportunity to learn from another person's experience from their point of view, although sometimes they challenge our values.

For my case, the way I present my "life story" is indirect. Instead, I created my representatives - the sugar cube (in the first draft) and the dough (in the second draft), both resembles "powerless" and "smallness". They can easily change their shape (to adapt to different situations) but at the same time, can be easily controlled by other people. Hopefully my characters can find a way to live their lives, so am I.
